Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte supports the candidacy for the Senate of the former Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Mark Villar.
During a chance meeting at the Coffee Project at the Evia Lifestyle Center in Las Pinas on Saturday, October 30, Duterte spoke briefly with Villar and assured him of his support in the May 9, 2022 election.
Duterte heads the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), which is a force to be reckoned with in Mindanao, and has been widely favored in recent polls to succeed his father, President Duterte.
However, she has repeatedly announced that she is not interested in running for president and will instead focus on securing another term as mayor of Davao.
Villar is running for a Senate seat in the 2022 elections under the leadership of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), led by President Duterte.
Former President of the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC) Greco Belgica, Former Land Reform Secretary John Castriciones, Former Information and Communication Technology Secretary Gregorio Honasan, Broadcaster Rey Langit, the actor Robin Padilla, vice-president of the House join Villar in the senatorial formation of the PDP-Laban. and party representative Sagip Rodante Marcoleta, and former chief presidential legal adviser Salvador Panelo.
The standard bearer, Senator Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa, and his running mate, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, lead the administrative party.
