‘What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You have weapons. Use them, ”Graham said
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican lawmaker representing South Carolina, called on authorities to use their guns to repel rioters storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan.6, detailed a report released on Sunday.
Graham implored then Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael C. Stenger to take action against protesters using their supplied firearms.
“What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You have guns. Use them,” lawmaker said The Washington Post (Wapo).
“We are giving you guns for a reason,” he exclaimed.
Graham also called Ivanka Trump, daughter of former US President Donald Trump, in an attempt to stop the riot.
“You have to get these people out of here. This thing is going south, ”Graham urged over the phone, WaPo reported.
“That’s not right. You’re going to have to tell these people to step down. Resign.”
A total of five people died in the attack on the Capitol, including a police officer.
Trump’s role in the incident is being investigated by a congressional inquiry, and the former president is trying to stop the release of several disclosure materials for investigators.
He tries to exercise executive privilege, a right promising confidentiality for certain executive communications, over information to prevent its disclosure.
Trump’s request will be considered in a court hearing scheduled for November 4.
The National Archives and Records Administration has explained that it will release documents from the Trump era starting November 12, unless a court stops the process.
